It doesn’t matter if you’re running solo, an affiliate, a start-up, an influencer, still dreaming, or even a long-standing small business owner. Everyone successfully working in the gig and start-up environment has to communicate their skills somehow, and they often have to get creative to break through the clutter. The following podcasts are now my main source of infotainment so I can stay up-to-date in marketing while performing the boring parts of life (chores, driving, meh). Maybe they’ll add a few ideas to promote your business, too!
- The Goal Digger Podcast (Jenna Kutcher) – Jenna and her guests discuss marketing basics pretty often and she serves as a perfect example of giving before taking. She gives out so much valuable information that no one shuts her out when she subtly sells her own products or affiliate links. If you really have no idea what you’re doing for marketing, she even has templates and classes to get you started. If you need more reasons to follow her, her content is inspiring and full of beautiful visuals.
- Side Hustle Show (Nick Loper) – Nick is a serial side hustler and talks to many who were cut from the same cloth. I initially started listening to his podcasts because I’m a remote worker/work-at-home-mom who couldn’t decide on a fitting side-gig. The podcast does stay true to its name – weekly discussions on a huge (seriously huge) variety of gigs and start-ups, but Nick and many guests also share marketing tidbits.
- Marketing Over Coffee (John Wall and Christopher Penn) – Okay, so this one really is pure marketing and not necessarily geared towards solo- or small-businesses. I had to include it because they bring their listeners to the next level of marketing. Once brands start executing on content creation and build an engaging audience, there is so much more to grow into. John and Christopher get detailed on algorithm and search on various platforms, AI, automation technology, trending gear, 2nd level SEO, GDPR and more.
- The GaryVee Audio Experience (Gary Vaynerchuk) – Gary is a veteran hustler/entrepreneur, social media expert and could even be considered a marketing visionary. As he regularly states, his attention is on ours – where the audiences are going, he follows. Thus, I follow him for what’s trending. He preaches on execution and giving value before selling. Warning: Gary has no filter – crude language galore. Also, I recommend only listening to a few episodes here and there as he’s pretty repetitive.
These people are all super real, down-to-earth and helpful. Their guests share marketing gems in every episode. When I realized just how many random notes I was taking (on envelopes, post-its, my whiteboard, the corners of work notes) while listening, I knew I needed to share.
Thanks for reading.
